City Champs, 1998

The Pennfield Soccer Team won it's first City Championship with a victory over perrenial power Lakeview in an overtime shootout. With the score notched 1-1 after regulation time, then two 15 minute overtime periods, the game went to a shootout. Both Pennfield and Lakeview converted all 5 of their penalty shots, but Pennfield's Dennis Martinez converted his "sudden death" penalty kick to seal the championship for Pennfield. Congratulations, Panthers!

Brian Laubenthal, Defender

Pennfield's Brian Laubenthal marks Lakeview's Chad Case in All-City action. Case would go on to score Lakeviews one goal during regulation on this run. Laubenthal, fellow defender Jason Alday, and goalkeeper Dave Nichols were instrumental in keeping the Spartans at bay in this game.
